The NJ Section of the Palisades Interstate Park will
sponsor a pair of guided hikes for children this winter, led by Christina
Fehre, an outdoor educator and supervisor of the park’s trail crew, which
maintains the 30 miles of sometimes rugged trails in the century-old park.
The hikes are to be held "drizzle or shine" and are free and open to all,
with no advanced registration required. Children must be accompanied by an
adult on the hikes, which will cover relatively easy terrain. Participants
should dress for the outdoors and wear sturdy shoes.

"Children’s Winter Nature Walk"
On
Sunday, February 26, hikers will meet at
2 PM at
State Line
Lookout in Alpine to explore some of the secrets of the winter
forest. The group will cover about a mile and a half in a tour that will
last about an hour. State Line Lookout is accessible from the northbound
Palisades Interstate Parkway about 2 miles north of Exit 2, with a
well-marked U-turn for access from the southbound Parkway (directions).

"The George Washington Bridge"
On
Sunday, March 11, hikers will meet at 2
PM at the Visitor Center at
Fort Lee Historic Park,
which is off Hudson Terrace immediately south of the George Washington
Bridge (directions). The focus of the hike
will be the George Washington Bridge, considered the busiest in the world,
which enters New Jersey at the crest of the Palisades just north of the
Historic Park. The group will cover about 3 miles in about 2 hours,
including an optional stroll onto the pedestrian walkway of the bridge
itself.

directions to either hike, please visit the Park’s website at
