Greenbrook conducted
its annual Big Day Bird Count on Saturday, May 12, 2007. As in previous years,
staff and members searched the 6½ miles of sanctuary trails in search of
resident and migrant species. The total species count was 85.
The count began at 6
AM and ran until sundown. The day’s highlights included: gray-cheeked thrush,
common raven and winter wren as well as bay-breasted, Blackburnian and
cerulean warblers.
Big Day is part of
the International Migratory Bird Day and is celebrated annually on the second
Saturday in May. Greenbrook has been a longtime participant and submits its
count totals each year. The table below is the final species list for Big Day
