Palisades Interstate Parkway

Completed in 1958, the Parkway provides a scenic 42-mile ride from the George Washington Bridge to Bear Mountain.

Access to the Parkway is limited to passenger cars and motorcycles only. Trucks and cars pulling trailers and cars or pickup trucks with commercial or combination plates or business markings or advertising are prohibited on the Parkway. Buses must have a permit.

Three lookouts in the NJ Section offer spectacular views of the Palisades, the Hudson River, and the New York skyline. Gas stations are located on both sides of the Parkway south of Exit 1.

Parkway exits in New Jersey, listed south-to-north:

George Washington Bridge (southbound onlytoll)    I-95 north, New England; New York City; Long Island.

Fort Lee, New Jersey Highways (southbound only, bear left at the split for the exit to the George Washington Bridge)    Lemoine Avenue, local streets, Routes 1 & 9, 4, 46, I-80, I-95.

Hudson Terrace (southbound only, the last exit before the toll for the Bridge, unless bearing left as described above)    Fort Lee, Englewood Cliffs, Edgewater; Fort Lee Historic Park.

Exit 1    Palisade Ave., Englewood Cliffs, Englewood; U.S. Route 9W; access to Dyckman Hill Road (Henry Hudson Drive), Ross Dock, Englewood Boat Basin & Picnic Area, Undercliff Picnic Area.

Rockefeller Lookout (northbound access only, no facilities)    About 1 mi. north of Exit 1.

Alpine Lookout (northbound access only, no facilities)    About 3 mi. north of Exit 1.

Exit 2    U.S. Route 9W, Alpine, Closter; Park Headquarters; Alpine Approach Road, Alpine Boat Basin & Picnic Area, Kearney House.

State Line Lookout (northbound only, U-turn available from southbound Parkway; “Lookout Inn” refreshment stand & gift shop; facilities; daylight hours only)

Exit 3 (southbound only, U-turn available from northbound Parkway)    U.S. Route 9W; Alpine Boy Scout Camps.

Exit 4    U.S. Route 9W.
