The NJ Section of the Palisades
Interstate Park has formed a garden club open to the public. There are many
areas throughout the park where we would love to establish flower beds to
help beautify the scenery. As a member of the Palisades Garden Club, you
would be responsible for your own flower bed in the park. Types of beds
include sign posts, picnic areas, areas in front of Park buildings, and
trailside gardens. Dedicated members will also receive volunteer
identification cards, which will give them special park benefits.
Garden Club members can
choose where and when they would like to work, and they will be
responsible for maintaining their beds. This includes planting flowers
or shrubs and keeping up the bed’s
appearance throughout the summer and fall. Park personnel will help
members with more difficult tasks such as removing large amounts of
weeds or old shrubs and mulching. Meetings with park personnel will be
held about once a month, during which members can offer their ideas (though
attendance is not mandatory). So if you’re
interested in helping make the Palisades a more beautiful place for all,
please join!
Call or send an email to Christina Fehre for more information
and to join: 201 768-1360 ext.107 or cfehre

Volunteers in action in the
NJ Section…
In 2009…
Volunteers from Fort Lee Middle School helped trail crew supervisor

Fort Lee Historic Park.

In other years…
Volunteers from
NBA’s corporate office
cleaned up the old bathhouse and beach at the
Bloomer’s area at the
Englewood Boat

day of the project. Below, volunteers from
Northern Valley Regional High School–Old Tappan
built steps on the
Long Path as part of their senior service work.

Volunteers
from
Volvo Cars of North America,
LLC, based in neighboring Rockleigh, New Jersey, helped reclaim the long
disused picnic grounds north of the pavilion at the
Alpine Picnic Area.
(Thanks, neighbors!)

Volunteers
from
CNBC in Englewood Cliffs helped
spruce up the Bloomer’s Beach area at the
Englewood
Picnic Area. (Thanks, neighbors!)

Volunteers
from the
Air Force ROTC cleaned up trash along the beach at the
Alpine Picnic Area,
and a volunteer group
from
Pearson Education
took a break
from a busy day of clean-up and other projects in front of the
